All universities ask students
to make a large commitment of time, effort, and
money in pursuit of their degrees. Duquesne University
asks no less of the students in the Department
of Speech-Language Pathology at Duquesne University,
but we also make a commitment in return.
Students
admitted to the speech-language pathology program,
whether as freshmen or transfer students, are
guaranteed a seat in the program until
completion of their master's degree. They do
not need to reapply for admission to graduate
school or take GRE’s. Instead, they will
experience a seamless transition from undergraduate
work, where they earn a B.S. degree in Health
Science, to the professional phase and graduate
work, which culminates with a master’s
degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
This guarantee is valid for
students who maintain a minimum QPA of 3.0 each
semester they are enrolled in the program. Additionally,
a handful of professional and clinical requirements
must be met beginning in year three of the program.
These include: maintaining an active CPR card;
presenting annual Criminal Clearance and Child
Abuse Clearance documentation from the Pennsylvania
State Police; providing documentation of immunity
to Hepatitis B and other infectuous diseases;
and, annual health testing.
The goal of our program is to
help students succeed. Rather than weed out students
we find ways to support students on the road to
success. Therefore, we do not admit a large group
of undergraduate students. We have chosen to keep
our program small so we can provide the personal
attention and support every student needs to be
successful.
