To provide clients with the
best possible treatment, speech-language pathologists
must be life-long learners. The speech-language
pathology program at Duquesne University enables
students to be at the forefront of knowledge by
providing a sound foundation in research through
the following courses:
Pre-professional Phase
• Introduction to Biostatistics
• Principles of Research
Professional Phase
• Research in Speech-Language Pathology
Research is the life-blood of
our academic discipline and professional practice.
Thus, students experience a broad range of research,
from basic science to applied clinical work. Coursework
teaches students how to understand and critically
review the ever expanding research literature.
Students then apply their knowledge through the
development of a research proposal.
Students who have an interest
in research or academic careers have the option
of expanding their research proposal into a master’s
thesis. Students who are interested in research,
but who are not ready to conduct master’s thesis
research, may still become involved in research
through volunteer or paid student research assistant
opportunities with faculty.
