Career Change

Are you considering changing your career? Speech-Language Pathology offers a wide range of exciting and challenging opportunities. As professionals speech-language pathologists work in many different settings with infants, children, adolescents, adults and the elderly.

Career change applicants to this program are treated individually. An academic advisor and a faculty member from the Department of Speech-Language Pathology work with each career change applicant to insure the development of a plan of study that best suits individual needs. The Department greatly values the richness, vitality and diversity that non-traditional career change students bring to a program. Thus every effort is made to smoothly integrate such individuals into the five-year guaranteed seat program. After receiving an application from an individual making a career change, there are three basic steps leading towards admission:

  • We review each applicant's previous coursework and determine if any pre-professional courses need to be completed in preparation for the professional phase of the program.

  • Academic advisors, in consultation with the Department, work with each applicant to develop a plan of study insuring full preparation to meet the challenges of the professional phase of the program. Pre-professional academic courses may be completed on a part-time basis.

  • Based on previous coursework and the individualized plan of study, a graduation date is projected that allows the applicant join a group of other students with the same anticipated graduation date.
