Parents

Parents sometimes have the opportunity to help their high schoolers make decisions about their futures. This web site can help you and your children learn about the profession of speech-language pathology.

Speech-language pathologists work in the health care setting, school setting, private practice, and many other work place environments. What ties all the work settings together is that the job of the speech-language pathologist is to help people develop or re-learn the ability to communicate (speak, listen, understand, use language, read, etc.). The ability to communicate is essential to the learning, working, and developing satisfying social relationships.

The program in speech-language pathology is unique. It is the first fully accredited program in the country to offer:

  • Direct admission to freshmen
  • A five-year guaranteed seat program
    • Freshmen complete the entire program in five years, earning a bachelor's degree AND a master's degree.
    • Transfer students are integrated into the five-year program at various points depending on their background.
    • All students admitted to the program are guaranteed a continuous seat through to their earning a master's degree in speech-language pathology.
