The AAC and Client Computer Lab

The Clinic has space dedicated to the needs of a wide variety of clients and student learning. This room houses several computers that are used by clients as part of their treatment programs. Some clients spend a portion of each treatment session using specialized software to enhance their clinical progress. Computer programs can be an excellent adjunct to speech-language therapy when delivered and monitored by highly trained speech-language pathologists.

This room also serves as a laboratory for a class SLP 555 Alternative and Augmentative Communication taught in the fourth year of the curriculum. Students gain hands-on experience with a wide variety of devices that can be used by people who have limited ability to speak. Devices range from the very simple to the complex, and from low- to high-tech. Students also learn how to create and troubleshoot these devices and some of the switches used to access the devices.
