Three of the eight treatment
rooms are designed to accomodate groups of varying
sizes. The mid-sized group room is also used by
a specialized treatment program for children with
multiple handicaps. This Good Beginnings program
brings together students from the Department of
Speech-Language Pathology and the Department of
Occupational Therapy to provide collaborative
intervention for children who have a variety of
needs. This collaborative effort gives students
valuable experience with this unique population
and with a co-treatment model of service delivery.
The largest of the group treatment
rooms is home to a variety of patients with neurologically
based communication disorders. Patients are grouped
based on the severity of their communication deficits.
They come for weekly functionally-based group
therapy. Some also come to the Clinic for individual
treatment.
